Description:

Native American Apache Made Little Virgin Axe from Sundance by Bear Romero

This hatchet is used by the Little Virgin at a Sundance. She symbolically hits a tree with it four times before the Sundance dancers line up and one after another hit the tree four times until it begins to fall. When it starts to fall, the tree is caught and carried, without touching the ground, to the center of the arbor where it is "replanted" and used as a centerpiece for various parts of the Sundance ceremony.
